Embracing complexity I

I am joining the workshop “Embracing complexity: looking at Chilean fisheries socio-ecological systems” organized by Sergio Navarrete and colleagues at the Centro de conservacion marina, Las Cruces, Chile. The objective is to use an integrated and interdisciplinary approach to describe and understand the complex socio-ecosystem of Chilean fisheries in order to find ways in which these interconnected networks can be understood to foster a sustainable usage of marine resources and preserve coastal biodiversity (workshop program).

Joining the editorial board of Ecosphere

I am joining the editor board of the ESA journal Ecosphere. Ecosphere publishes papers on the broadest range of ecologically related topics. In addition to the traditional sub-disciplines of ecology, we are interested in multi- and interdisciplinary studies (e.g., ecohydrology, land-atmosphere interactions, Earth system science, complex systems, conservation ecology) as well as submissions from all sections and chapters in ESA (e.g., environmental justice, traditional ecological knowledge, applied ecology, education). The journal's goal is to provide a rapid-publication, online-only, open-access alternative to ESA's other journals, while maintaining the rigorous standards of peer review for which ESA publications are renowned.
